Course Outline:
This course will cover the consolidation theories behind Settle3, RS2, and RS3 and the application of these tools in different engineering problems including settlement analysis, simulation of soil-structure interaction, and ground improvement analysis. The results from methods will be compared against each other and analytical solutions.
Module 1: Theory and Model Setup (Settle3)
- Stress computation methods
- Settlement estimation methods (empirical vs consolidation theory)
- Loads and excavations (flexible, rigid)
- Material models in Settle3
- Examples
Module 2: Theory and Model Setup (RS2 and RS3) Applications
- Consolidation Theory (Biot’s formulation)
- Model set up and boundary conditions
- Material models in RS2 and RS3
- Examples and comparison with Settle3
Module 3: Common Applications
- Loads and excavations
- Embankment designer Settle3
- Staged construction of Embankments in RS2 and RS3
- Reporting tools
