Open a File

Dips files have a .dips8 filename extension. Older versions have a .dips7 extension.

To open an existing Dips file:

  1. Click on the Open file icontoolbar button, or select File > Open from the menu.
There is a new file format for the latest version of Dips. The main Dips file now has a * .dips8 filename extension. This is actually a zip file which contains the Dips input file and the view state file which saves the view state and display setting information and has a * .dipsvs filename extension.

Backwards compatibility

Dips can still read version 7.0, 6.0 and 5.0 files.

Open ShapeMetriX File

In addition to Dips files, Dips is able to read in custom *.3gdps files created by the 3GSM program ShapeMetriX. To learn more, see the ShapeMetriX help topic.
