Import Settings Template
Various selections must be made as you progess through the Import Wizard which essentially tells Dips:
- Which Data Types you would like to import;
- For each Data Type, which Header Data you would like to populate; and,
- From which columns/rows would you like to read the data from the Excel Import File.
If you tend to import Excel files with the same formats, you can save time by creating an Import Settings Template so that you're selections for the following are saved:
- Data Types (i.e., Linear, Planar, Linear BH Oriented Core, Linear BH Televiewer, Curved BH Oriented Core, Curved BH Televiewer, Clinorule, Grid Data)
- Traverse Information Import
- Sheet
- First Data Row
- Append All Unused Columns as Comments
- Import Headers from Row
- Data Format
- Header Data entries and corresponding From Column
- Grid Data Import
- Sheet
- First Data Row
- Append All Unused Columns as Extra Columns
- Import Headers from Row
- Global Orientation Format
- Declination

Predefined Import Settings Templates may come installed with Dips. These templates are created in collaboration with companies who supply field measurement tools for gathering orientation data. The Predefined Import Settings Template corresponds to their raw data output format, for quick and easy import of their data into Dips.
Predefined Import Settings Templates currently available in Dips include:
- RockMass Technologies - Scanline
- Formatted for output data from RockMass Technologies' Axis Mapper scanline mapping
- Orientation (Dip/Dip Direction) data collected along a Linear Traverse.
- RockMass Technologies - Spot Mapping
- Formatted for output data from RockMass Technologies' Axis Mapper face mapping
- Orientation (Dip/Dip Direction) data collected as spot measurements.
