Slope Property Statistics

The slope's Unit Weight, Ponded Water Elevation, and Groundwater parameters can be assigned as random variables in a Probabilistic Analysis. If the project's Toppling Model is set to Block Flexure Toppling, the internal rock strength parameters (Friction Angle, Cohesion, and Tensile Strength) can also be assigned as random variables.

Unit Weight

To set Unit Weight as a random variable:

  1. Select Analysis > Slope > Properties Slope Properties Icon
  2. In the Material Strength tab, click the Statistical Distribution icon Statistical Distribution Icon next to the Unit Weight parameter to open the Statistical Distribution popup menu.
    Unit Weight Dialog
  3. Select a Distribution method. For more information on the available Distribution methods, see the Statistical Distribution topic.
  4. Enter a Mean value and provide any other distribution-dependent parameters (Standard Deviation, Relative Minimum, Relative Maximum).
  5. Select OK to set the Distribution method. The analyses will be recomputed with the Random Variable once Apply or OK is selected in the Slope Properties dialog.

Ponded Water Elevation

To set Ponded Water Elevation as a Random Variable:

  1. Select Analysis > Slope > Properties Slope Properties Icon
  2. In the Water Parameters tab, click the Statistical Distribution icon Statistical Distribution Icon next to the Ponded Water Elevation parameter to open the Statistical Distribution popup menu.
    Ponded Water Depth Dialog
The analyses will be recomputed with the random variables once Apply or OK is selected in the Slope Properties dialog.

Groundwater

Depending on the selected Groundwater Method, different Groundwater parameters can be set as random variables.

Elevation

The Groundwater Elevation can be set as a random variable, similar to Ponded Water Elevation.

To set Ponded Water Elevation as a Random Variable:

  1. Select Analysis > Slope > Properties Slope Properties Icon
  2. In the Water Parameters tab, select Elevation as the Groundwater Method.
  3. Click the Statistical Distribution icon Statistical Distribution Icon next to the Groundwater Elevation parameter to open the Statistical Distribution popup menu.

  4. Select a Distribution method. For more information on the available Distribution methods, see the Statistical Distribution topic.
  5. Enter a Mean value and provide any other distribution-dependent parameters (Standard Deviation, Relative Minimum, Relative Maximum).
  6. Select OK to set the Distribution method. The analyses will be recomputed with the random variables once Apply or OK is selected in the Slope Properties dialog.

Hu

The Hu value can also be assigned as a random variable for the Elevation and Water Surface Groundwater Method options.

To set Ponded Water Elevation as a Random Variable:

  1. Select Analysis > Slope > Properties Slope Properties Icon
  2. In the Water Parameters tab, select Elevation or Water Surface as the Groundwater Method.
  3. Click the Statistical Distribution icon Statistical Distribution Icon next to the Hu parameter to open the Statistical Distribution popup menu.

Internal Rock Strength

To set an internal rock strength parameter as a random variable for a Block Flexural Toppling analysis:

  1. In the Project Settings, ensure you have selected Block Flexural Toppling as the Toppling Model. See the Toppling Settings topic for more information.
  2. Select Analysis > Slope > Properties Slope Properties Icon
  3. In the Material Strength tab, click the Statistical Distribution icon Statistical Distribution Icon next to the desired internal rock strength parameter (Friction Angle, Cohesion, or Tensile Strength) to open the Statistical Distribution popup menu.
Material Strength with Block Flexural Toppling Applied Dialog
