Custom Plot Variables

For Histogram, Cumulative and Scatter Plots, a default list of Variables to Plot is always provided. This includes the basic analysis output variables (e.g. Factor of Safety, Tunnel Convergence) and the probabilistic input variables (e.g. Compressive Strength, Young's Modulus).

With the Custom Plot Variables option, you are not limited to the default list of Variables to Plot. You can create any user defined function of the input and/or output variables, and plot them on Histogram, Cumulative or Scatter Plots.

Once a Custom Plot Variable definition has been created, it will appear at the end of the list of Variables to Plot in the Histogram, Cumulative and Scatter Plot dialogs. Custom variables can then be selected for plotting like any of the default variables.

Defining Custom Plot Variables

To create a new Custom Plot Variable:

  1. Select the Custom Plot Variables option from the Statistics menu.
  2. You will see the Custom Plot Variables dialog. To define a new custom variable, select the New button in the dialog.
  3. You will see the Define User Variable dialog. This lists all of the variables, functions and operators which are available for defining custom variables.
    • Enter a Name for the Equation you will be creating (this can be anything you wish).
    • Enter an Equation using the available variables, functions, operators. NOTE: you must type in variable names exactly as they are specified in the list in the dialog.
    • You may also enter a Chart Axis Label for the new variable. This can be different from the variable Name.
  4. Select OK in this dialog, and you will be returned to the Custom Plot Variables dialog. The Name of the Equation you just defined will appear in the list of Existing User Variables.
  5. Select OK in the Custom Plot Variables dialog.
  6. The custom variable you have defined will now be available for plotting on Histograms, Cumulative and Scatter Plots. Custom variables will appear at the end of the list of Variables to Plot in the Histogram, Cumulative and Scatter Plot dialogs.

Editing / Deleting Custom Variables

To edit or delete an existing Custom Variable:

  1. Select Custom Plot Variables from the Statistics menu.
  2. Click on the name of the Custom Variable that you wish to edit or delete.
  3. To edit the Custom Variable definition, select the Edit button. You can then edit the Name, Equation or Chart Axis Label in the Define User Variable dialog.
  4. To delete a Custom Variable definition, select the Delete button.

Importing Custom Variables

You may also Import custom variables from other RocSupport files, by selecting the Import button in the Custom Plot Variables dialog.
