Solution Method

The Solution Method is used to compute the Ground Reaction Curve in RocSupport. In the General tab of the Project Settings dialog, you may select from the different Solution Methods:

• Duncan Fama solution Duncan Fama (1993)
• Carranza-Torres solution Carranza-Torres (2004).
• Vrakas and Anagnostou Vrakas and Anagnostou (2014)
• Lee and Pietruszczak Lee and Pietruszczak (2008)
• Barbosa solution Barbosa (2009)
• Vrakas solution Vrakas (2016)

All are closed-form solutions, but with slightly different approaches and assumptions. In the Project Settings dialog, a small description of each solution method is displayed to the right of the Solution Method section once a specific method has been selected. See the references for details.

The required rock mass data is different for each solution. Therefore, if you switch from one Solution Method to another, re-open the Tunnel and Rock Parameters dialog, to ensure that the appropriate data is entered.
