Export Slide2 File
The Export Slide File option allows you to export a RS2 slope model to a file which can be read by Slide2.
Slide2 is a 2D limit equilibrium slope stability program available from Rocscience, see the Rocscience website for information.
To export a RS2 model to a Slide2 file:
- If your RS2 model is multi-stage, first select the stage tab of the stage you wish to export. Since Slide2 does not currently support multi-stage modeling, you can only export a RS2 model at a specific stage.
- Select Export Slide from the Export sub-menu of the File menu.
- You will see a Save As dialog. Select Save and the RS2 file (at the selected stage) will be saved as a Slide2 file with an .sli filename extension.
Compatibility of RS2 and Slide Features
RS2 has many modeling and analysis features which are not supported by Slide2. If your RS2 model uses modeling options not supported by Slide2 these will either be converted to the nearest equivalent entity or option which can be utilized by Slide2 or they will just be ignored, when you export the file.
Some general points to remember when using the Export Slide File option are listed below.
- Only slope models are intended to be exported from RS2 to Slide2..
- Slide2 cannot analyze models with underground excavations (i.e. an underground excavated space with no material). If your RS2 model contains underground excavations, the excavation boundaries will be exported, but the excavations will be filled with a default material.
- RS2 bolts will be converted to the most applicable equivalent support type in Slide2.
- RS2 liners cannot be exported to Slide2 and will be ignored.
- RS2 joints or structural interface boundaries will be exported as material boundaries. Slide2 does not currently allow explicit modeling of joints.
- Some RS2 material models cannot be exported to Slide2 (e.g., Cam Clay). Material properties which cannot be exported will be given default Mohr-Coulomb properties.
- In general, any RS2 analysis or modeling feature which is not applicable or not supported by Slide2 will not be exported.
After export, you should always carefully examine the Slide2 file to ensure that all entities and properties have been exported successfully. If some RS2 entities were converted or ignored, you may have to edit the Slide2 file to ensure the desired results.
The Export Slide File option is intended as a convenience to export the RS2 model geometry, and all compatible modeling options. It cannot fully export all RS2 modeling features and you must be aware of this when exporting models from RS2 to Slide2.
After exporting, you may still have to define slip surface search objects (e.g. grids) and other analysis parameters in Slide2. By default the Auto Refine Search Method will be in effect, which does not require user input, but in general you will probably need to customize the slip surface search and other aspects of the slope stability analysis in Slide2.
