Manual Mapped Mesh

The Manual Mapped Mesh option allows you to generate a mapped mesh in individually selected triangular (3-sided) or quadrilateral (4-sided) regions.

  • In most cases, the recommended method of generating a mapped mesh is to use the Automatic Mapped Mesh option.
  • The Manual Mapped Mesh option should only be used if you wish to restrict the mapped mesh to certain areas of the model, and leave other areas of the mesh un-mapped (random).

Before you can use the Manual Mapped Mesh option, you will have to ensure that the model boundaries are properly discretized. For details, see the Automatic Mapped Mesh topic, as the requirements are the same.

To use the Manual Mapped Mesh option:

  1. Select Manual Mapped Mesh from the Mapped Meshing sub-menu of the Mesh menu.
  2. Click the mouse inside any triangular (3-sided) or quadrilateral (4-sided) region.
    • If the boundaries are correctly discretized, the mapped mesh will be generated in the selected region, and you will exit the Manual Mapped Mesh option. The mapped mesh will be generated according to the discretization of the boundaries, and the Element Type in Mesh Setup (Triangles or Quadrilaterals)
    • If the boundaries are not correctly discretized, or the region is not triangular or quadrilateral, then you will see a warning message, and the region will not be map meshed.
  3. Repeat steps 1-2 for each region that you wish to map mesh.

NOTE: if a Quadrilateral mesh is applied to a triangular region, then some of the elements will necessarily be triangles.
