Import EX3 File
The Import EX3 File option introduces the ability to easily import EX3 files into RS3 for analysis. To import an EX3 file:
- Select File > Import > Import EX3 File from the menu.
- You will see an Open File dialog, allowing you to select a file from which to import the EX3 file. Select and open the desired EX3 file (*.ex3).
- After importing the EX3 file, Import EX3 wizard dialog will be shown.
The user has the option to change the external size, divide all, auto restraint and generate mesh to finalize import. After the user has finalized their import settings, press OK to finish the import.
You should verify that the geometry and material properties have been correctly read.
The settings by default import the EX3 project to a compute-ready state.
Supported Import:
- Units
- Materials
- Stages
- Field Stress Settings
- Loads
- External
- All geometry and associated manipulation operations (extrudes, divides, etc)
Transformed on Import:
- Ground Surface Nodes and their operations are replaced with the external from the import wizard
- Joint Surfaces and their related operations are replaced by the RS3 equivalent nodes
- EX3 file with no external but with divided geometry is supported by allowing the user to add an external during the import process
Unsupported EX3 Features:
- Field Point Planes are removed
- Mesh Refinements are not imported
