Limitations
This section discusses the limitations with the current block model feature to prevent users from misuse.
- Boreholes
- Once the block model is imported, neither the Master Material nor Child Material can be used for the geological unit in the Borehole Manager. If an existing material assigned in a borehole is converted to a Child Material, it will be replaced with an existing non-block material. If no non-block material is available for replacement, the borehole entities will be removed.
- Strength factor
- In RS3 Version 3.4.5, the strength factor contour cannot be plotted when the block model is used for the analysis.
- Stage factors and Datum Dependency for Child Materials
- In RS3 Version 3.4.5, stage factor and datum dependency cannot be applied for the Child Materials.
- Generalized anisotropic (no same parameter)
- When the strength parameters of the base and joint for a generalized anisotropic strength property of a Child Material are defined per-block, the same parameter cannot be separately defined for both base and joint strength because only one column can be selected for a given parameter.
- Cautions of using multi-stage plastic/ssr regions
- In RS3 Version 3.4.5, plastic or SSR regions in multi-stage models become ineffective if the applied material property changes from block model to non-block model or vice versa.
