Beam Type: Truss
In the Define Beam Properties dialog, if you choose Beam Type = Truss, then you can define the properties of beam elements that can resist axial loading only (compressive or tensile). Truss elements in RS3 do not carry flexural or shear loads.
Truss Properties
The required input parameters to define truss properties are identical to the input parameters used for standard beam properties, with the following exceptions:
- the shear strength input option is disabled for truss elements, since it is assumed that a truss element carries no shear load
- the moment of inertia input options (I-min and I-max) are disabled, since it is assumed that a truss element carries no flexural load
For more information about truss properties, see the Beam Type: Standard topic.
