Tunnels Overview
In RS3, you can design and analyze 3D tunnels by utilizing the options under Tunnels menu. It helps to design various tunnel shapes and automate complex staging excavations.
To design a 3D tunnel:
- Use Tunnel Designer option from the Tunnels menu to customize the design of your tunnel.
- Add the tunnel into the model using the Add a Tunnel option from the Tunnels menu.
- Use the Constrained Divide All option from the Tunnels menu to generate a mesh for the model that maintains tunnel features.
- Continue with applying boundary conditions and computation using the typical options.
You can delete the tunnels with the Delete All Tunnels option from the Tunnels menu.
Below are RS3 tutorials of Tunnel Design modelling using the Tunnels menu:
Alternatively, in RS3, tunnels can also be modelled by firstly creating the 2D shape with following methods:
- Use the Cylinder tool under Geometry > 3D Primitive Geometry.
- Use the Draw Polyline option under Geometry > Polyline Tools.
- Use the Tunnel Shapes option under Tunnels menu.
Then the depth dimension can be edited using the Extrude option under Geometry menu. In comparison, the Tunnels menu provides a thorough and extensive process of tunnel excavation including complicated designs such as staged tunnel excavations with supports and loads.
See RS3 Quick Start tutorial for tunnel excavation model using Cylinder and Extrude options.
