Soil Properties
The material properties for all analysis types are entered in the Soil Properties dialog.
General properties are:
- Unit Weight: A Unit Weight greater than zero must be specified for each material and is expressed as a force per unit volume. If a Water Table has been defined for a model, then you can define different Unit Weights above and below the Water Table for any material. The Unsaturated Unit Weight will be used for material ABOVE the Water Table and the Saturated Unit Weight will be used for material BELOW the Water Table.
The following tabs are available:

AXIAL ANALYSIS MATERIAL PROPERTIES
The following soils are available for axial analyses:
Sands:
Clays:
Refer to the Theory Manual for more information on each of the above soil types.
LATERAL ANALYSIS MATERIAL PROPERTIES
In the p-y method, the soil around a pile is replaced by a set of springs that define the soil resistance, p, as a nonlinear function of the pile deflection, y. The p-y curves are considered to vary continuously with depth.
The material selected dictates the p-y curve calculation. Recommendations for obtaining p-y curves for clay, sand and weak rock are presented in the Lateral Pile Analysis Theory Manual.
Selection of soil models (p-y curves) to be used for a particular analysis is the most important aspect of the problem. Some guidance, and specific suggestions, are presented in Single Piles and Pile Groups Under Lateral Loading, 2nd Edition (Reese, L., Van Impe, W., 2011).
The following soils are available for lateral analyses:
Clay Soils:
Sands:
Silts:

DRIVEN ANALYSIS MATERIAL PROPERTIES
The Driven analysis is based on the FHWA method of axial pile capacity calculation used by DRIVEN.
