Strength Above Water Surface

If your model includes a Water Surface (e.g. Water Table or Piezo Surface), then you can specify a different strength type to be used ABOVE the assigned Water Surface for any given material.

To use this option:

  1. In the Material Properties dialog, select a Material and select the Water Parameters tab.
  2. Select the Water Surface you would like to assign to the material.
  3. Select the Specify alternate strength type above water surface checkbox.
  4. Select a Material from the Use strength type from the drop-list.

When you run the analysis, Slide3 will use a different material strength type above and below the water surface, according to your material selections in steps 1 and 4. This option can be useful, for example, for clay materials, if you wish to use an Undrained Strength model below the water table, and a Drained strength model above the water table.
