Add User-Defined Sphere/Ellipsoid Surface
The Add User-Defined Sphere/Ellipse Surfaces option allows you to define individual spherical or ellipsoidal slip surfaces with user-defined parameters (e.g. center, radius).
This option is only enabled if the Surface Generation Method in the Slip Surface Options dialog is set to User Defined Surfaces.
To add a user-defined sphere/ellipse slip surface:
- Select the Slip Surfaces workflow tab.
- Make sure the Surface Generation Method = User Defined Surfaces in the Slip Surface Options dialog.
- Select Add User Defined Sphere/Ellipse Surface from the toolbar or the Surfaces menu. You will see the Add User Defined Surfaces dialog.
- Select the Surface Type - Sphere or Ellipsoidal.
- For a sphere, you can enter Center (x,y,z) and Radius.
- For an ellipsoid you can enter Center (x,y,z), Radius (x,y,z) and Rotation (x,y,z).
- Select OK and the sphere or ellipsoid will be added to the model.
You can add any number of user-defined slip surfaces. To add additional surfaces repeat steps 3 to 5.
If you are analyzing User Defined Slip Surfaces, then you CANNOT use a primary Search Method (e.g. Grid Search, Cuckoo Search, Particle Swarm) to search for critical slip surfaces, and vice versa. The two options are exclusive. If you need to analyze user-defined slip surfaces and search for critical surfaces, then you will have to carry out the analyses separately.
