Slope Minimum Wedge Size
The Minimum Wedge Size option allows you to exclude (filter out) the analysis of very small wedges which may be generated by a Probabilistic or Combinations analysis.
To use this option:
- Select the Slope tab in the Input Data dialog.
- Select the Minimum Wedge Size check box, and enter a minimum wedge weight, representing the smallest wedge that you would like to consider in the analysis.
- Any wedges generated by a Probabilistic or Combinations analysis which weigh less than the minimum wedge weight will be discarded from the analysis, and will not be included in the final analysis results.
This option is useful because very small "wedges" can sometimes give misleading analysis results (e.g. very low safety factors), and may be difficult to see on the model (e.g. very thin slivers). In general, it is larger wedges which are of the greatest concern in an SWedge stability analysis.
Although the Minimum Wedge Size option is OFF by default, it is recommended that this option is enabled for Probabilistic or Combinations analysis to filter out the analysis of very small wedges.
The Minimum Wedge Size option is NOT available or applicable for a Deterministic analysis, since a Deterministic analysis only involves the analysis of a single wedge.
