Wedge Naming
You will notice that UnWedge automatically assigns names and numbers to the wedges generated by the analysis. The wedge naming convention depends on the Plunge of the Tunnel Axis Orientation, as described below.
Perimeter Wedges
- If the plunge of the excavation axis is less than 70 degrees, the Perimeter Wedge naming will use Roof, Floor, Upper Left, Upper Right, Lower Left, Lower Right, etc.
- If the plunge of the excavation axis is primarily vertical (70 to 90 degrees), then the Perimeter Wedge naming will use a North, South, East, West naming convention (e.g. North, North West, etc.).
- A wedge is grouped based on the location of the centroid of the wedge. There are 6-60 degree angles around the tunnel used for the named locations.
For example:- Upper Right is 30-90 degrees
- Lower Right is 90-150
- Floor is 150-210
- Lower Left is 210-270
- Upper Left is 270-330
- Roof is 330-30
where angles are measured clockwise from the y axis in the 2D section of the tunnel. Wedges are allowed to share locations.
End Wedges
- If the plunge of the excavation axis is less than 70 degrees, the End Wedges will be labelled Near End and Far End. Near and Far assume the viewer is facing the Opening Section, as defined in the Opening Section view.
- If the plunge of the excavation axis is primarily vertical (70 to 90 degrees), then the End Wedges will be referred to as Roof, and Floor.
The wedge names and numbers appear in several places in the program, including the Info Viewer, Sidebar (Wedge Information panel), Multi-Perspective View, End Wedges View, and Data Tips.
