Tunnel Orientation Analyzer

The Tunnel Orientation Analyzer option allows you to determine:

  • Critical minimums or maximums of any output variable of the UnWedge analysis (e.g., Maximum Required Support Pressure, Minimum Factor of Safety, Wedge Volume, etc.); and,
  • Which joint combination(s) and tunnel axis orientation(s) produce these critical values.

To find critical values, critical joint combinations, and critical tunnel orientations:

  1. Select the Tunnel Orientation Analyzer Tunnel Orientation Icon option from the Analysis menu.
  2. The Tunnel Orientation Analyzer dialog allows you to configure:
    • Critical Data Type (i.e., Max. Pressure, Min. Factor of Safety, Wedge Weight, Wedge Volume, etc.).
    • The Tunnel Axis ( Trend and Plunge, Trend only (constant Plunge), Plunge only (constant Trend)).
    • The Min. and Max. range of Trend and/or Plunge being analyzed.
    • The Num. Intervals of Trend and/or Plunge used.
    • The Wedge Selection considered in the analysis (All Wedges, Perimeter Wedges, End Wedges, or any individual wedge).
    • The currently selected joint combination or Consider All Joint Combinations (if more than one possible joint combination exists).
  3. Select Compute Critical Orientations Compute Crticial Orientations Button button to start the analysis.
  4. A list of critical results will appear, including the Combination, Joints, Tunnel Trend, Tunnel Plunge, and the critical values for the selected Data Type. There are options to Copy List Copy Icon to the Clipboard, or Export to Excel Excel Icon.
Max. Pressure refers to the maximum required pressure among the Wedge Selection. Min. Factor of Safety refers to the minimum Factor of Safety among the Wedge Selection.
The list of results will need to be repopulated by selecting Compute Critical Orientations button after changes are made to the analysis configurations.
