Bolt Visibility
If you have added bolt support to your UnWedge model, the Bolt Visibility option allows you to select which bolts are visible around the excavation. This is useful during the support design phase of the analysis, so that you may easily view the bolts which affect the Factor of Safety of the wedges, and the potential failure modes of the bolts.
The Bolt Visibility option is available in the Sidebar for the following views:
Intersecting Wedges
The Intersecting Wedges option displays only the bolts which intersect the wedges on the exposed excavation face area of a wedge. These are the only bolts which are actually considered in the Factor of Safety calculations, and which can stabilize the wedges. Any bolts which are not shown by the Intersecting Wedges option (for example, bolts generated by the Add Pattern Bolt option which do not intersect any wedges), have no effect on the UnWedge stability calculations.
All
The All option will display all of the bolts which exist on the model. For example, you will see the complete pattern of bolts generated by the pattern bolting options, if you set the Bolt Visibility = All.
None
If you wish to hide the display of all bolts, you can set the Bolt Visibility = None.
Failure Mode
If you set the Bolt Visibility to one of the Failure Mode options, you will see only the bolts which correspond to the selected Failure Mode. Only bolts which intersect wedges can exhibit a Failure Mode. Each bolt can only have one Failure Mode reported.
NOTE: It is important to understand that the display of a bolt Failure Mode does not necessarily mean that the bolt has actually failed. The bolt Failure Mode would only occur if there is movement of the wedge (i.e., wedge Factor of Safety < 1). The bolt Failure Mode is based on the properties of the bolt and the orientation of the bolt with respect to the wedge plane. For more information, see the Bolt Failure Modes topic.
