RSPile can now construct interaction diagrams for axial load and biaxial bending moments at different angles, and for any loads applied to the section, using Eurocode 1992:2004 (EC2 for short).

Alongside the existing ACI 318-22 Whitney block and Modified Hognestad methods for defining the stress-strain relationship in reinforced concrete, three other relations were added from EC2: the EC2 stress block, EC2 Parabola and Bilinear relations. These new EC2 stress-strain relations are included in RSPile release version 3.025.

Why Does Having Eurocode EC2 Matter?

EC2 provides a comprehensive set of guidelines for the design of concrete structures to ensure safety, reliability, and consistency across Europe. Now that it’s included in RSPile, engineers can align their designs with widely accepted European standards.

How It Works:

You can check column sections or reinforced concrete piles for axial load and biaxial bending moments. For piles designed by RSPile, the check is automatically performed for the whole length of the pile. The software calculates the demand to capacity ratio at each elevation and provides a capacity ratio output. Then, wherever the capacity ratio exceeds unity, the program will highlight the inadequacy of the section at that level.

RSPile calculates the ACI factor for material strength reduction, while the default values recommended in EC2 are used for calculations. There is an option to use different factors, including partial material factors for concrete, reinforcement, and structural steel. Reduction in material factors for long term strength and for uncased piles can also be changed.

An additional feature allows for the reduction of pile sections following EC2 sec.2.3.4.2. EC2 can also be used for circular piles (see Figure 3) to account for axial loads and bending moments and ensure compliance.

With the new Eurocode features, RSPile can be effectively used in structural design for reinforced concrete piles across Europe and for any project adhering to Eurocode standards.
