Compute
When you have finished creating a RocFall2 model, to run the analysis you must use the Compute tool so that the program can calculate and display the results in the result tab.
To start the RocFall2 Compute, select the Compute option from the toolbar or the Analysis menu.
The progress of the analysis will be displayed in the Compute dialog. When Compute is finished, a warning dialog may pop up with the compute log if not all runs ended successfully. The message contains brief information on the nature of the unsuccessful simulations and how to improve the results.
Suggestions for Improvement
The table below lists the types of warnings and ways to improve the simulation.
Reason |
Suggestion |
Exceeding Max Compute Steps |
Simplify geometry or increase the limit in Project Settings. |
Invalid Slope Geometry |
Ensure that vertices are at least 0.001 length units apart. Use Simplify Slope if necessary. |
Invalid Crest Loss Setup |
Ensure that the upslope and downslope distances do not exceed the previous and following slope vertices and that no berm sits on crest loss(es). |
Invalid Starting Location |
Ensure seeders are within the model horizontal extents, not below the slope geometry, and not near vertices. If using rigid body analysis, moving the seeder (if drawn right on the slope) by 1/2 radius away from the slope can also help. |
No detected Collision |
Simplify slope geometry. |
Invalid Intersection between slope and shape |
Simplifying slope geometry and/or reducing slope roughness can reduce invalid intersections. |
Bad relative size between slope and rock |
This can happen when the rock is too big for the slope. Double check slope coordinates and rock geometry input. Arbitrarily extend the slope 100x rock radius behind the seeder can also help. |
