Add Support
Individual support elements can be added to a model with the Add Support option in the Support menu or the toolbar.
To add a support element:
- Select Add Support from the toolbar or the Support menu.
- Enter the first endpoint of the support, graphically with the mouse, or by entering coordinates in the prompt line.
- After the first point is entered, notice that as the mouse is moved, the length and angle between the first point and the current location of the cursor on the screen are displayed in the prompt line. You can use the length and angle as a guide for graphically entering the second endpoint with the mouse. Or you can enter the coordinates of the second point in the prompt line.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each support element that you wish to add.
- When you are finished adding support, right-click the mouse and select Done, or press Escape, to exit the Add Support option.
- Each individual support element (on the 2-dimensional slope model), actually represents a ROW of equally spaced support elements, when considering the out-of-plane dimension (third dimension) of the model. For example, a row of Soil Nails, or a layer of GeoTextiles.
- The Out of Plane Spacing of the support elements (or in the case of GeoTextiles, the Strip Coverage), is defined in the Define Support Properties dialog.
Tips
- If your model requires multiple support elements in a regular pattern, then you can use the Add Support Pattern option, rather than Add Support.
- Individual support elements can also be added with the Add Support Pattern option. This is a useful alternative to the Add Support option, because of the Orientation and Length options which are available in the Support Pattern dialog. See the Add Support Pattern topic for information.
